Our Journey
Sheep keeping the grass down
Ray starting to get the trenches dug
Laying the pipes with a quarter bubble fall.
Spent a day digging out a 4m deep hole just for it to fill with water over night!
THE SITE
Kirstie & I moved to Cornwall in 2017, Kirstie had been away for over 30 years & wanted to return as well as leave the rat race behind. We looked at different businesses including pubs, café’s & village stores but none of these felt right! We found a field just outside St Keverne, a village Kirstie spent many a childhood summer visiting grandparents & family & the seed of Cedarwood was planted. We then spent 2017 setting up the Cedarwood camping pod site.
Once we had obtained planning permission, (which was no easy task!!) in early October, Kirstie & I together with Ray, the local 74yr old JCB driver, installed mains water and electricity supply and a sewerage treatment system to provide our bespoke pods with all the services required to ensure we had a unique product. Our aim, to give our guests the type of accommodation we would be happy to stay in ourselves.
We wanted to create a site where no matter your age you can enjoy the experience of camping without the need for bringing a car full of equipment or doing the "walk of shame" to a shower & toilet block first thing in the morning or the middle of the night!
Our nearest beach is in the fishing village of Coverack, kayak's, wind surfing & paddle boards can be hired & the harbour wall is ideal for sitting in the sun enjoying fish & chips from the Lifeboat House restaurant. Due to our favourable location there are several beaches within a short drive including Kennack Sands, Kynance Cove, Gunwalloe (Church Cove), Poldhu Cove & Mullion to name a few.
Additionally, we are in easy travelling distance of some of Cornwall's most well-known coastal resorts such as Porthleven, St Ives, Falmouth & Penzance.
Cedarwood has now been open over 5 years & we have welcomed well over 1000 groups of guests & we still get guests saying our pods look brand new, which is music to our ears as we both work very hard in keeping our pods in top condition.
We have had a wide range of visitors from several different countries including The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Canada, The USA, France & Singapore as well as the UK. We've welcomed walkers, (lots of short stays whilst walking the Southwest coast path), we've had bird watchers, astronomers, as well as couples & small families just wanting a beaching holiday or a short break.
We continue to receive great reviews & feedback from guests via Airbnb, Google and our own website showing an appreciation of what we have created & the great location of the site. In addition, we are delighted to have a growing number of returning guests many who have become good friends.
We have recently aired on the Channel 4 tv show ‘Four in a Bed’. We were delighted to receive the best scores on the feedback forms & 100% payment but unfortunately only managed 3rd place!! It was certainly an experience to see how the show is made & how much is edited out from 2 weeks of 15 hour days of filming & one we wouldn’t hurry to repeat…!!
We would like to say thank you to all our guests for visiting us at Cedarwood & we look forward to seeing them & new guests in the future.
